Travelance: Visitors to Canada Medical Insurance

A few months ago, our company had the privilege of signing a contract with Travelance, a prominent Canadian insurance company. Since then, we had several clients asking to purchase Super Visa or Visitors to Canada from Travelance, mostly due to the fact that their prices are very competitive and they offer great coverage. The client can choose from different deductible options, ranging from $0 to $5,000 and choose between two different plans.

Travelance offers two Visitors to Canada plans: Essential and Premier.

Here are the main differences between the two plans, to help our clients decide which plan to gowith. Both plans are eligible for Super Visa applicants and both the Essential and the Premier plans can be bought for a maximum duration of 18 months. This is a unique feature of Travelance, as other insurance companies only sell their policies for up to a year in advance.

Both plans offer coverage for ambulance, semi-private hospitalization and the services of physicians, surgeons and in-hospital nurses. They both cover diagnostic, laboratory tests and x-rays, when ordered by a doctor.

While there are some similarities, the Premier plan offers much more than the Essential plan, in terms of benefits to the client, with a very small difference in cost. The Premier plan covers up to $1000 (up to 30 days) in prescription medications, double than the coverage offered in the Essential plan. It also offers coverage of up to $3,000 in case of a dental emergency and $500 to relieve tooth ache, as opposed to $2000 and $300 covered in the Essential plan. In case of death, the Essential plan will cover up to $5,000 to repatriate the remains or up to $3,000 for cremation or burial at destination. The Premier plan covers up to $15,000 for repatriation and up to $5,000 for burial or cremation.

On top of everything, the Premier plan offers additional benefits, not offered in the Essential plan. Among these are ‘follow up visits,’ up to $3,000 and emergency paramedical services by chiropractors, chiropodists and physiotherapists. The Premier plan provides the client with $150 a day (for maximum of $500) for accommodations and meals in case of hospitalization and $50 a day hospital stay allowance. It also offers coverage for pre-existing conditions, as long as they have been stable for the last 6 months before the effective date and $100,000 for accidental death and dismemberment.

It is extremely important to read the policy wording in order to make sure that the client is eligible and to understand all the benefits, as well as the exclusions. These plans are for emergencies and therefore do not cover regular check ups or routine care. Pregnancy and delivery are also excluded in both the Essential and the Premier plans.
