If you are about to take a winter vacation exploring the world, this article is just for you!
To our traveling clients, we rounded up a few options to save you money on your International phone bills because we all know how expensive these can get for long distance communication. There is no longer a need to spend a fortune to talk to your loved ones back home.
Here are some of the most popular and easy options to replace the good old phone call, while enjoying your time away from work and the cold Canadian winter.
Skype:
You might be already familiar with Skype that lets you create an account and use it for free video calls to people from your Skype friend-list. It can be accessed from a smartphone, a PC or a tablet/iPad. As long as you have Wi-Fi, this Microsoft owned service can be very useful, especially if you want to communicate via webcam and have a chat with your family or friends. As well, you can call a landline or a mobile phone from skype for a small fee.
Viber:
This free app has no ads and is very valuable when it comes to calling overseas. You can use it for texting, phone calls and video chatting, as long as you have a mobile number and the people you are trying to reach also have this app downloaded. The quality of Viber’s phone calls are good, just make sure to get connected to a local Wi-Fi to avoid using your web-data.
What’sApp:
Similarly to Viber, it’s free and is available on any smartphone or BlackBerry and uses internet data to communicate. WhatsApp can be used for text messages, as well as video, audio and picture messages and users can create groups to connect to a number of people at the same time.
Google Voice:
You can use it from your inbox to make phone calls or download the Google Voice for iPhone and call any phone in the US or Canada for free, as well as internationally, at very low rates. You can sign up for Google Voice for free from your Google account, which uses the same information you use to access other Google services like Gmail and YouTube.
You can find all of these awesome applications in the Apple Store for iProducts and Google Play for Android if you prefer to use your smartphone more than your computer. As well, they are available for your computer too, this comes in very handy when wanting to video chat with family and friends!
We know how important staying in touch with your overseas friends and family is to you, so hopefully, these tips and tricks will help you stay connected with loved ones around the world more easily and for free!
