Side-Trips Benefit:
As a part of the benefit package, RIMI will cover medical emergency treatment outside Canada, provided each insured person is physically present in Canada for at least 51% of the total coverage period (per policy).

Please note that the maximum duration of covered side trips is 30 days per policy. Such coverage is not available in your country of origin and/or permanent residence.

Visiting Home Country: If you decide to visit your country of origin, your insurance policy will remain active as long as you intend to return to Canada during the period of coverage. However, any medical treatment performed during such visit will not be covered.

Uninterrupted Travel Coverage:
Coverage for uninterrupted travel to Canada will automatically be included in your insurance policy if you purchase your coverage prior to the departure date from your home country.
Waiting Period:
Waiting Period would only apply to policies purchased AFTER the date of your arrival in Canada.

48-hour waiting period applies following the effective date if the policy is purchased within the first 30 days of arriving in Canada.
8-day waiting period applies from the effective date if you purchase your policy more than 30 days following your arrival in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements
Please make sure you meet eligibility requirements for Visitors to Canada & Super Visa insurance from RIMI before you buy.

Eligibility Requirements:
– You must be a Visitor, Immigrant, Work Permit Holder or a Returning Canadian resident.
– You must NOT be eligible or covered under any provincial insurance plan in Canada.
– You must be at least 15 days old and under 90 years old.
– You must not be travelling against physician’s advice.
– You have not been diagnosed with a terminal sickness.
– You must not have any reason to seek medical treatment and/or have any new or undiagnosed symptoms.
– You must not require any assistance performing daily activities i.e. dressing, bathing, etc.
Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Coverage:
Pre-existing Medical Conditions are covered under both RIMI Standard and Enhanced options, but only under Plan 2.

1) Up to 69 y.o.: Pre-existing medical conditions are covered provided that they have been stable for at least 90 days immediately prior to the start date of the policy.

2) 70-84 y.o.: Pre-existing medical conditions are covered provided that they have been stable for at least 180 days immediately prior to the start date of the policy and you have accurately answered Medical Questionnaire i.e. you answered “No” to all questions.

How to Get a Refund
Premium refunds are not available for any policies where a claim has been made, pending or paid for.

Full Premium Refunds:
Full Refunds of paid insurance premium are available when you meet conditions outlined below:

– Request for a full refund is sent within 10 days from the moment of purchase (only before the effective date indicated on your policy). No cancellation applies.
– Request to cancel your policy any other time before the effective date in case you are no longer travelling to Canada. Cancellation fee may apply.
– Request refund due to Visitor or Super Visa denial. No cancellation applies, when you provide satisfactory proof from IRCC.

Partial Premium Refunds:
Partial Refunds are available when:

– You request to cancel your insurance because you return back home prior to the expiry date. Cancellation fee will apply.
– You become eligible for any provincial insurance plan in Canada. Cancellation fee will apply.

 
Please note that all refund requests MUST be submitted within 60 days following the a) the date your become eligible under any provincial insurance in Canada; b) the day you depart for your home country and end your trip; or c) the expiry date of your policy.
 
In order to request a refund, please contact one of our Insurance Advisors.

How to make a Claim
If you have a medical emergency and require immediate treatment, you or someone on your behalf has to notify MSH Assistance center before making a claim, if possible.

Failure to do so may limit your coverage to 80% of any eligible medical expenses up to a maximum of $25,000.

In order to file a claim, please submit the following documents:

– A fully completed Claim Form.
– All original and itemized medical receipts.
– Original prescription drugs receipts (if any).
– Copy of your travel documents and passport confirming your trip details.
